Ride the Baden Wine Cycle Route with Bosch and Maximilian Semsch

Surrounded by the mountains of the Odenwald, the Black Forest and the Vosges, the Upper Rhine Plain is Germany's warmest and sunniest region. In combination with sufficient rainfall, this creates a special, feel-good climate with a Mediterranean flair – perfect for vines.

This hilly, wine-growing region can be explored easily by eBike, particularly via the 460-kilometre (285 mi) Baden Wine Cycle Route. The long-distance eBiker, Maximilian Semsch, has picked three stages between Weil am Rhein and Gengenbach to provide you with a multi-day adventure full of scenic and culinary highlights.

This section of the trail starts in Grenzach-Wyhlen, very close to Weil am Rhein and on the border to Switzerland near Basel. As both towns are located at an important railway junction, it’s easy to get there by train and bike. With overnight stays in Staufen and Riegel, Maximilian cycled all the way to Gengenbach – thanks to his eBike, he covered the 1,800 metres (5,900 ft) of elevation gain fully able to concentrate on enjoying the landscape.

Numerous Bosch charging stations in the picturesque region provide a never ending source of energy, so there’s no need to worry about running out. The same goes for the many inns and restaurants in Baden-Württemberg – you'll never go hungry or thirsty here.
