The enchanting Rain Valley cycle path leads through wild river valleys, into lush forests on lonely shores, past beautiful bathing spots that tempt you to cool off in the water, and across breathtaking meadows. The River Rain winds its way through the Bavarian Forest, passing charming villages and idyllic reservoirs. A singularly picturesque landscape that impresses not only from the Rain Valley but also from the hills that line it.

The River Rain is a tributary of the Danube and draws its water from several spring rivers, called Big, Small, White and Black Rain, some of which originate in the Czech Republic. On the approximately 100-mile (170-kilometer) long Rain Valley cycle path, you'll cycle from Regensburg over four stages, each an average of 25 miles (40 kilometers) long, through the Bavarian Forest to the Czech border. Behind which originates the Great Rain, which is called Řezná in the Czech Republic. Most of the time you'll cycle along the river in the valley, but on some stretches, you also cross the surrounding hills and you can look forward to a few feet of elevation.

The start of this four-day bike ride is the beautiful city of Regensburg, to which you can arrive comfortably by train. As you go, you'll find numerous options for staying overnight at all of the stage destinations, including camping sites. The Rain Valley cycle path ends at the Czech border in Bayerisch Eisenstein, from where you can also take the train back home.

Tip: If you'd prefer to bike downhill rather than uphill, you can ride the Rain Valley cycle path in the other direction, for example from Bayerisch Eisenstein to Regensburg. Whichever direction you choose, however, one thing is certain: Lots of rain and a lot of forests will accompany you on your ride.
