Following the Sandstone route through Münsterland in 3 stages

The Sandstone route meanders through the rolling Baumberge hills, found in the center of Münsterland. You will cycle through enchanting forests, across colorful fields, vast meadows and past rustic farms and charming villages. As the name suggests, you will visit over 200 sandstone buildings; from fairytale castles to impressive churches.

You can cycle path’s 106 mile (170 kilometer) length in three stages, starting and finishing at Billerbeck train station. Take the regional train from Münster to easily start your adventure. As the Sandstone route is a circuit, you can join the path at any point such as Baumberge, Havixbeck, Nottuln, Coesfeld or Rosendahl. You will also find various accommodation options and excellent cafes and restaurants in the villages to relax after your ride.

Everything revolves around the Baumberger sandstone along the cycle path – the gold and marble of Münsterland. You can learn about this yellow stone in the Baumberger Sandstein Museum (Baumberg Sandstone Museum). In the Baumgerger woods and hills, you can explore the landscape where the valuable building material is found in the soil whilst admiring the impressive sandstone buildings along the way. With views over blossoming rapeseed fields, peaceful forests, the Sandstone route is an unforgettable ride.
