If you want to go explore outside of Stockholm, here is a bikepacking overnighter ride that is flowy and never keeps you bored. Good for those who never have bikepacked before!Starting in Bålsta, where you can easily take the train, you set off on a mix of road, single track and gravel of all sorts. Riding where an old rail way went through and passing the remnants of the old trainstations. Crossing through forests or fields of different crops, you will encounter loads of horses and cattle grazing the land too. In June, there will be flowers following your trail.Halfway on the first day, you will come to an old mill, Forsby Kvarn Café, to eat an incredible lunch made with locally sourced food and enjoy the picturesque river. Also a great spot to fill your watersupply!Continuing on, your mission is to reach Sala and restock on any food or snacks you will need for the evening. As you will be camping out at Järndammen windshelter, about 10km after Sala. Again, the road will be a mix of different packed gravel. The last 50 m before you arrive at the windshelter, will be a hike-a-bike following the lake. There is a firepit, but be cautious and always check if you are allowed to make a fire, as summer seasons usually it is not permitted due to high wild fire risk. If you go during a period where you are aloud, you will have to bring your wood. Enjoy the surrounding forest, swimming in the lake and the sun setting. Put up your tent or prepare the windshelter to then enjoy preparing some food and share some stories. On day two, you head out on some packed gravel, which will be the main theme of the ride going back. Heading out with Heby being the last town you can restock at, for the remaining 60km before reaching Uppsala.
Passing farms and country side homes, there will be more asphalt roads and rolling hills. There is even an old hunting hut you can stop to eat your lunch at, about 50 km in.
Celebrate reaching Uppsala with a gelato, maybe explore this historical city. Then there are many train options to get you back in to Stockholm again. Or for those who want, make a route and cycle back to Stockholm! The 1st day was planned by Sandra Ermalm and the 2nd day by Lorenza Walker.
Hope you enjoy this fun and flowy route!
