This is a short two day trip I done on Feb 1st and weather was perfect, not as smokey as usual at this time of year. It is a tough route with plenty of steep climbs up to 20% grade. The weather was quite cold at the end of the first day when I arrived Ban Mae Chaem at the glamping spot location for the night as it’s near 1000m. A fabulous location and restaurant also where I had a nice meal. It was chilly also leaving the next morning at 8am but it was not look before I was warm. A light jacket was enough to keep warm when needed. There are plenty of opportunities to stop at nice local places to eat or drink coffee on route. There were an abundance of plants and beautiful butterflies to be seen on the route especially through Chae Son national park. I used the PlantNet App to identify some of the plants which was great. The descents are steep and narrow bends so I needed to be careful, excellent brakes are a must. After exiting ChaeSon park it is more or less all downhill. There is a nice stop at a cool small park and waterfall where a guy sells ice cream. It’s easy back to Chiang Mai from here passing through Ban Mae Kampong, a lovely village and also passing a few beautiful Buddhist temples.
