  • In 1776, a dragon frightened the residents of the Carrer de la Portella (parallel parallel street). At night you heard strange noises and suddenly babies and small children disappeared. Some people even want to have seen the kite and you hardly dared to go outside at night.
One late evening the knight Bartomeu Coc, governor of Alcúdia, came to Palma to visit his fiancé. He also heard a strange sound in the dark. Suddenly the dragon stood in front of him in the diffuse light of the street lighting, you could hardly recognize him. Coc drew his sword and killed the beast with one blow.
Now he saw that it was a crocodile that was not even that big.
In honor of his future wife, who would soon be called Coc, he called the crocodile "Drac de na Coca".
The crocodile was stuffed and kept in a chest. When a curious servant of one of Bartomeu Coc's descendants opened the chest many years later, she was so terrified that she died of a heart attack on the spot. So the dragon claimed his last victim long after his death.
Since crocodiles are not indigenous to Mallorca, one suspects that it came here as a baby on board a ship and grew up in the sewers. Today it is exhibited in the Diocese Museum next door.
You have to look for the small figure on the facade of a house.
