Laying of the foundation stone 6.6.1869 / Inauguration 17.8.1871
Hardly anything today still reminds of the old farming village "Ruti", which lay at the foot of his village church St. Verena. Not even the present church of St. Verena itself, because it is a new building. The remains of their predecessor from the 15th Century but are probably still in the choir walls and in the tower base. But already in 1275 there is talk of a church to Reutin and 1399, maybe even 1330, it is mentioned as "Sant Fren ze Ruti".
At the latest in 1528, when Lindau became Protestant, Reutin also took over the new confession. In 1534, Verena experienced a reformed "iconoclasm". Actually only a little bit of a sermon, because the council instructed financial people to remove the images and demanded that it "in quiet and tidy access". In 1712 the church was thoroughly renovated and in 1737 received three new bells. 1739, the parish of St. Stephen is detached. In 1781 the lightning struck and set fire to the tower. Probably two bells were lost, because in the same year they ordered new ones.
Their sound accompanied the change in Reutin in the 19th century. The population began to grow and confessional conditions changed. In 1810, when there was one Catholic, there were 639 Protestants, and in 1895 there were already 837 Catholics and 914 Protestants. Background was a strong influx of civil servants and soldiers, after Lindau had fallen in 1806 to Bayern. In 1910, the parish counted 1,196 Protestants, but growth was probably not "natural". A chronicler regretted that Reutin could show only a small number of children.
In 1868, the old church of St. Verena was demolished in favor of a new building. Shortly before, Pastor Georg Kreitmair moved to Nuremberg. He saw his transfer as salvation. The need in the Reutiner Pfarrhaus was so great that the pastor's children waited for deaths in order to buy bread again. You have probably earned a few groschen as a singer or corpse wearer.
The site manager was Anton Harrer, who had already converted the Lindau harbor in 1856. At the laying of the foundation stone, the chancel fell and some singers suffered "moderate bruising". In 1925 St. Verena received the first electric church heating in Bavaria. Their parish house, the Villa Lugeck in the Steigstraße, once inhabited the Weizsäcker family and Carl Friedrich and Richard von Weizsäcker came and went here.
