Lüneburg: Das schwangere Haus

I've known this house for almost 27 years and have seen this bulge. It has been lovingly restored again and again and is the result of the mortar that was burned from the plaster of the Kalkberg.

This mortar has the stupid property of becoming soft when wet. If the whole house presses against the wall, bulging and / or brick breakage occurs. You can see it here. For this reason this house is affectionately called "The Pregnant House".

It is on Waagestrasse diagonally across from the tourist information office at the town hall.

The pregnant house on Waagestrasse was created by incorrectly fired gypsum mortar, which over time absorbed water and expands. But it is a rumor that couples especially willing to have children come here and touch the house wall.
