ancien canal Ludwig-Danube-Main

This historic canal was the predecessor of today's Rhine-Main-Danube Canal. He has a total of more than 100 locks, some of which are still quite well preserved. In different places - u. a. between Mühlhausen and Pollanten - is still used today as a tourist attraction with the help of cold blood horses. The path runs through idyllic landscapes, but is paved only in a few sections; with touring bikes, however, there are no problems. - From Neumarkt or Burgthann take S-Bahn trains to Nuremberg in a short train.

I can fully recommend the route. A real bike gem. Cyclists are provided with catering at several of the former lock keeper's houses. In addition to the idyll, art projects on the canal provide amusement. I've already traveled twice from Munich to Franconia, once to Feucht, last year a little further via Weltenburg / Kelheim to Hassberg.Here are the descriptions with lots of meaningful photos:Until damp
