Margarethen-Stadtkirche

A landmark of Kahla is the late medieval town church of St. Margarethen with completely preserved pre-Reformation Vierergeläut.
The city church with its characteristic tower (66 m) characterizes the townscape. The namesake of the church is also the patron saint of the city. Formerly a castle and today the old town and the church stand on a 700 m long sandstone plateau, which rises about 25 m above the Saale.In 1227, a pastor in Kahla was first mentioned in a document. In 1345 the castle was stormed and destroyed. After the city fire of 1410, the church was rebuilt on Romanesque remains in several stages. 1791-1793, the church received its present form. The walls were raised by 3.40 m, the attic, the flat ceiling, the three galleries, the organ and the stalls rebuilt. In 1906 an entrance was built from the choir to the so-called Cavate, the crypt-like room under the sanctuary. Previously, the Cavate was accessible only from the outside.In 1945 caused by the effects of the war considerable damage to the church, which could be repaired until 1953-55. The third gallery was removed, the two remaining galleries shortened and the windows were renewed in the style of the 1950s. Since 1992, the church can be used year-round thanks to the installation of a powerful heating system.A special feature is the hanging in the church tower Vierergeläut. The bronze bells from the years 1415 to 1516 are original.Inside the church is the baptismal font, probably from the 12th century. The Renaissance pulpit, finished in 1554 (painted 1635), was replaced in 1615 by a baroque pulpit and set up in the church of St. Nicholas, serving as a cemetery church, on the bridge over the Saale. Only since 1955 she is back in the church and is used today as a reading pulpit.To the west on the upper gallery is the organ. It goes back to a work from 1796, was damaged in World War II and rebuilt in 1954/55 and 1966 or extended. The organ has two manuals and 29 stops. She is now in bad shape and a new organ is planned.

Les services ont lieu chaque semaine dans l'église de la ville de Kahla, une ou deux fois par mois dans les branches et lors de jours fériés spéciaux.Il y a une bonne coopération avec le jardin d'enfants protestant et la maison de retraite "Am Langen Bürgel", qui est parrainée par la Diakonie. La station sociale Diakonie et une maison pour une vie adaptée à l'âge sont gérées par la paroisse de Kahla.Pour les enfants, il existe des offres dans la communauté telles que divers groupes d'enseignement chrétien, une chorale d'enfants (Johann-Walter-Kurrende), un groupe de flûte et d'autres instruments.
