Conseils
  • Le château de Trenčín est un magnifique joyau au-dessus de la ville. Les seigneurs avaient une vue lointaine. Il est joliment justifié et conservé. A voir.

The castle was built in the 11th century on a steep cliff. It was a royal castle, under which gradually developed a city. The mighty fortress is the result of a gradual improvement of the important border fortification and the later county seat Trenčín. The castle played an important role in the history of the Kingdom of Hungary, especially during the Turkish invasions.Matthew Csák (Matúš Čák, Máté Csák) came in 1302 in the possession of the castle and dominated from here until his death in 1321, in fact, the entire western and central Slovakia. After his death, the castle became royal property again. His father Peter Csák had the 39 m high central tower rebuilt in years 1260-1270.On August 24, 1335, Trenčín Castle was closed to Trenčín. Contracting parties were the Bohemian King John of Luxembourg and his son Marggraf Karl and the Polish King Casimir the Great. Kasimir's brother-in-law, the Hungarian King Charles of Anjou, acted as mediator in the negotiations. With the Treaty, Casimir the Great gave up all claims of Poland on the Silesian duchies dominated by the Piast dynasties. In return, John of Luxembourg and his son Karl renounced the Polish royal title, which they had inherited from the Přemyslids. Also at the castle Trenčín Kasimirs successor Ludwig I confirmed in 1372 in his capacity as King of Poland, the Trenčín Declaration of 1335 in full.In the course of time further objects were added to the sturdy Matthäusturm: the Mühl- and Jeremiasturm as well as the Ludwigs-, Barbara- and Zápolyapalast. The characteristic of today's castle Barbara Palace was King Sigismund of Luxembourg at the castle for his second wife Barbara to build. In 1600, the Erbgespane Illésházys owners of the castle. From 1663 to 1782 a German occupation settled down in the castle. In 1742 the castle was rebuilt and after 1782 used as a barracks. The plans of Ján Illésházy to renew the castle were not realized because it was destroyed by fire in 1790. More intensive renovations began in 1956 and continue until today.
