Weilburg Castle, or Weilburg Castle for short, was a castle in Baden in Lower Austria, whose main building is reminiscent of a crest stone on Weilburgstraße in Baden.
Almost at the end of the Weilburgstraße, exactly at the point where the footpath branches off to the ruin Rauheneck, stands on the edge of the forest a crest stone, which documents the fateful connection of Henriette of Nassau-Weilburg with the "victor of Aspern", Archduke Karl of Austria , The crest stone is the last testimony of burned out at the end of World War II castle "Weilburg". In the vernacular, this memorial is therefore the "tombstone of Weilburg". The rising lion is the Nassauian lion, who still dominates the coat of arms of the city Weilburg an der Lahn. Here stone garlands, roses and laurel leaves crown him in an oval, which is exaggerated by the imperial crown. An eagle whose mighty wing-wings occupy the right side grasps the lower hoop with its beak. On the other side rests a magnificent lion, eagle and lion are heraldic animals of the former imperial house Habsburg-Lorraine. This coat of arms once enthroned on the attic of the mighty portico and comes from the sculptor Josef Klieber (1773-1885). The castle itself was built in 1820/23 according to the plans of the architect Josef Kornhäusel (1773-1850). During the Second World War, it housed until December 12, 1944, the second battalion of the teaching regiment "Brandenburg", an elite unit of the German Wehrmacht. On April 2, 1945, just before the Soviet army reached Baden, members of a mountain hunter unit, which was using the castle at the time, burned various files. At the same time the western wing caught fire, and for three weeks, from west to east, the splendid castle burnt down. The Soviets who had arrived in the meantime had banned firefighting work for the Baden Fire Department.
When the remnants of the fire ruin were blown up in 1964, the intact coat of arms of posterity was preserved. Unfortunately, the laid up bales of straw, which should moderate the fall, proved insufficient. So the whole crest fell down and burst. He was then painstakingly reconstructed by Josef Dobner in agreement with the Federal Monuments Office.
