The 50-meter-high natural dam was the demarcation of a small glacier thousands of years ago - like so many other areas in Vorarlberg.When the Geltscher melted, a small lake was created. At some point, this lake broke through in one place - today's Engenlochschlucht.What was left was a fairly deep valley, lots of sand and gravel.Thus, today's, almost artificial-looking dam in a natural way.
