Sounds like a top trip in mid winter. We did the trail in mid summer and made it to the Flashpackers place in Ongarue and had a fantastic stay over with Remi who runs it and builds his own bikes. Great place to stop. Keep cycling mate!!!!!
I want to go back and do it over 2 days... will definitely try visit Remi!
Might do onharue/piro return overnighting at lodge with gayann week of 15th :-)

Forgot to say...... We stayed at the Bog Inn hut (doc) which is about 1.5km off the main timber trail and has four single bunks and a wood burner. It's about half way along the trail to Ongarue. Enjoy
