Sortie à vélo - Incontournable
In June 1952 the first welcome came from the "Willkomm-Höft" to greet a ship over the Elbe: "Welcome to Hamburg, we look forward to welcoming you to the port of Hamburg." Since that day, several hundred thousand ships of more than 1,000 have been Grosstonns from all over the world are noted on the “Willkomm-Höft” in the charts as a welcome point, greeted with their national anthem and said goodbye. What seemed so natural and simple to outsiders required extensive and lengthy, exact planning. Over 150 national anthems were recorded and the welcome text recorded in the respective national language.
The captains of welcome in the command center provide the FÄHRHAUS guests with a variety of information about the ship that has just been greeted or said goodbye. Over 17,000 index cards and the daily port report are your main sources of information. Any change, be it a change of owner, the conversion or a new use of a ship, will be corrected immediately. From 11:30 a.m. until sunset, the head office is staffed by a guard with special knowledge.
The fully automatic 40 m high steel mast shows the flag of Hamburg, the flag of the Federal Republic of Germany, the state flag of Schleswig-Holstein and the signal flag UW (We wish you a good trip).
Welcome courtyard is open daily, i.e. happens within 24 hours, on average of more than 50 ships, regardless of working day or Sunday, weather or season. This only includes the fully "salutable" ships, ie with more than 1,000 GT on overseas trips. Smaller ships can only be greeted visually by dipping the flag.

"Welcome to Hamburg, we look forward to welcoming you to the Port of Hamburg." So it sounds several times a day across the Elbe, when a larger ship passes the Willkomm Höft, Wedel's most famous attraction.
At Willkomm Höft am Schulauer Fährhaus, all incoming and outgoing ships are greeted with a survey of more than 1000 Grosstons with their national anthem and in their respective national language. And this since June 1952. Smaller ships are not greeted acoustically, but by the dipping of the flag. Since the Willkomm Höft is even entered in the nautical charts, sailors around the world know where Wedel is.
Guests at the Schulauer Fährhaus will be greeted by the welcome captains via loudspeakers, who will provide them with a wealth of information about the ships passing by, including technical data, port of call and cargo.

Be sure to try the apple strudel. When ships arrive or leave Hamburg, the national anthems are played and useful information is given about the ships.

This investor obviously has several names. There are ferry connections that call it Schulau, others call it Wedel, it is always the same facility.

The Willkomhöft with the ship recycling plant is simply a visit to Wedel. Especially on weekends it is an attractive attraction for many day trippers.
