Olten is a municipality and the capital of the district of the same name in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. Olten is the largest city in the canton.

Although an older settlement is proven, the founding of Olten is attributed to the Count of Frohburg. In the city fire of 1422, unfortunately, the entire archive was burned, so that no documents from this period are more available.In 1383, Olten was besieged by Bern and Solothurn, but due to a storm, they had to pull off unfulfilled things. As a result, it was rumored that the storm was being conjured by a witch. Shortly thereafter, a woman from the Klus was arrested as "Witch of Olten" in Niederbipp. She escaped the death of fire only the intercession of the women of the councilors.Due to the two devastating city fires of 1411 and 1422, the interest of the city of Basel ceased, and in 1426 Olten came into possession of the city of Solothurn.
