Conseils
  • The Wasserturm is the first building in Emden to be built in reinforced concrete. The container lies on two concentric support rings. It is supported by 10 reinforced concrete pillars connected by cross braces. The pillars rest on a foundation of 260 piles of 15 meters in length. The pipes and the spiral staircase to the ascent are protected in the closed interior of the three-storey substructure. The container is surrounded by a ten-cornered plastered iron concrete jacket, which serves for isolation. A two-level, top-conical roof completes the building upwards. The 1000 m³ water tank has a composite bottom, a combination of an outer annular flat bottom with an inner dome bottom. Because of the large container diameter of 12.5 meters, a pure cupola floor would have taken away too much volume. In the center of the container, a passage is cut out, which leads to the uppermost container platform in the roof cone.

  • The Emden Water Tower is located on the Abdenastraße near today's main station. The building from the years 1910 to 1912 is owned by Stadtwerke Emden and is still in operation. At 42 meters high, it dominates most of the city's buildings and is an important example of a technical building from the beginning of the 20th century in Emden. Since 1999, the water tower is a listed building.
