The museum was established in 1974 directly in the recently closed mining building from 1953-56. The redesigned mining exhibition presents the 2000 year mining tradition of the Sauerland region. Both the reasons for the end of mining and the social conditions are explained in the administrative wing of the former zinc-lead mine. The mining history reaches from the beginnings of Ramsbecker mining in the 10th century over the mines of the Sauerland nobility and the first unions to the "Sauerland California". Shortly after the gold rush in the US, the "zinc rush" was proclaimed in Ramsbeck! Stock market money bubbled and the small village was developed into an industrial location - unfortunately the speculative bluff burst after only 2 1/2 years and left tears and desperation. Thanks to Prussian engagement, the sustainable expansion of the mines to temporarily lead zinc-lead-mines in Germany took place.In the museum you can experience the way from the mining manual work over the first mechanizations and explosives to the big "machines of the modern age". He crashes, smells, smokes and rattles in the museum - so that young and old understand in the truest sense what it meant to be a miner.In the chew (Bergmanns changing room) one is equipped with helmet and protective clothing! The original 1950s electric mine locomotive then takes visitors 1.5 km into the Dörnberg. There, at a depth of 300 m, 16.7 million tonnes of lead-zinc crude ore were mined in 250 km of original tunnels. The highlight is the once largest underground drum carrier in the world. At constant 10-11 degrees Celsius throughout the year, sturdy shoes and warm clothing are necessary!On the approx. 11 km long mining trail, not only the medieval Venetian stollen can be discovered, but also the unique and diverse mining cultural landscape in and around Ramsbeck. Through the interaction of museum, visitor mine and mining trail in Ramsbeck can explore a comprehensive picture of the historic mining, which appeals to all the senses.

Joli petit spectacle à moi. Une belle exposition sur cette ancienne mine raccourcit le temps d'attente pour prendre le train dans la montagne. Hautement recommandé.
