Source: rottenplaces.de:Wilhelmstal (Radevormwald) was decisively influenced from 1856 by the great weaving mill and cloth factory of the brothers Hilger. In 1866, five steam boilers and two steam engines were put into operation, thus beginning the industrial revolution in the Oberbergischer Kreis. In the following years, a fierce legal dispute arose over tax revenues between the communities of Fünfzehnhöfer and Lüttringhausen. Nearly 600 people work in the factory at this time. In 1890 parts of the cloth factory were destroyed in a fire, but the main building was spared.
Nevertheless, the company went into insolvency in 1890.
In 1898 Carl Caesar converted the former cloth factory into a paper factory for ticket and wallpaper paper. The operating equipment included two round screening machines, a longitudinal screening machine and a 650 hp tandem steam engine from MAN to drive the paper machines. The factory was electrified in 1912. A steam turbine generator generated its own electricity. In 1927, the factory was again in financial difficulties, the company Ernst & Luh from Achern took over the company. Its partner Wilhelm Ernst founded the Mittelbadische Papiermanufaktur a few years earlier.Together with mechanical engineers, they developed test and production machines for the sacks, which were used massively during the Second World War for armament-related construction measures. Even in the post-war period, the need for cement bags was enormous, so that the British occupiers in 1948 gave permission for the resumption of production. 1952 replaced the steam turbine with a new state-of-the-art AEG. In the 1959s worked 150 to 200 people in the factory. After renewed financial difficulties, due to falling sales figures, the Swedish company Korsnäs took over the factory in the 1960s.On November 30, 1970, production ceased, as it was no longer possible to compete with production capacity at the site. 135 employees were dismissed. The company Körsnäs Wilhelmstal GmbH Papiersackfabriken also produced afterwards with plants in Achern and Langenfeld (Rhineland). Since 1997, smaller companies have settled on the site, the main factory is empty and expires rapidly.Attention, you can not just go in there, it's dangerous.
