At Pierheim you cross the European main watershed between the Rhine and Danube. The MD channel has its highest point at 406 m. There is also a monument to admire. Vertex posture is the name of a sculpture designed by Hannsjörg Voth on the apex posture of the Main-Danube Canal. Its two wall-like parts border on the two banks of the canal where it crosses the European watershed or the watershed between the Main flowing over the Rhine to the North Sea and the Danube flowing to the Black Sea.
The two walls erected from white granite blocks are aligned with each other with their 6 cm wide upper boundary surface, which disappear into the grown soil at the outer ends.

For cyclists, the 171-kilometer federal waterway is a relaxed Schottweg trip that connects the Main near Bamberg with the Danube near Kelheim.
