Le château bleu est le plus ancien des deux châteaux
22 janvier 2021
Already in the Middle Ages was at the site of today's castle a fortified complex, which was surrounded by a moat. The barons of Seckendorff-Gutend used the foundations of the previous building to build the Red Castle next to the Blue Palace in 1745.
By contrast, the construction of the Blue Palace had begun in 1696 by the von Seckendorff-Aberdar family. A second construction phase followed in the years 1711-1718, a third 1756-1758: 1696 had received the Ansbach Kammerjunker Christoph Sigmund von Seckendorff-Aberdar the old castle of the Aberdar family and started the construction of today's north wing of the Blue Palace. The second construction phase goes back to his son Philipp Albrecht, who was also Kammerjunker in Ansbach. He probably used the court architect Gabriel de Gabrieli for the planning of the eastern wing. Finally, Christoph Ludwig von Seckendorff-Aberdar, the grandson of Christoph Sigmund, had the west wing built. He was Prime Minister and Privy Council President and in this capacity the most important adviser to the Margrave Carl Wilhelm Friedrich of Brandenburg-Ansbach. The building was decorated in 1759 with an alliance coat of arms of the families Seckendorff and Cronfeld, created by the sculptor Philipp Hochstein from Ansbach.
The garden was planned by Christoph Ludwig von Seckendorff-Aberdar and Franz Felix Schack. Possibly, however, the ideas of the building director Leopoldo Retty were behind the designs. 1742, the moat was spanned by an oak bridge with cast-iron railing.
The two late Baroque palaces in Obernzenn are named after the colors prevailing in their façade design.
The eastern wing of the Blue Palace can be visited by guided tours. It contains a picture gallery with family portraits from the 17th and 18th centuries and various representative rooms decorated with stucco work. In a museum workshop projects with topics around the absolutism are offered. Source: Wikepedia
