Randonnée - Incontournable
The Amselsee impresses with its romantic and hidden location on the edge of the spa Rathen. The Niederrathener rocks, which tower high above the Amselsee, offer a great backdrop to the Amselsee. In winter, the Amselsee is often visited by skaters.

The Amselgrund, which flows through the Grünbach stream, begins south of Rathewalde as a romantic gorge and ends at Amselsee shortly before Rathen. Its upper canyon-like section runs completely through the core zone of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. The trail along the bottom offers interesting views down to the Grünbach, which partially disappears between the rocks and rushes down to the valley over several steps. At the Amselfallbaude the water falls as a remarkable fall into the valley - by far the largest of the waterfalls in Saxon Switzerland. In the Amselgrund are the blackbirds with a National Park information point and further above the Rathewalder mill (Lochmühle). The lake, which today is about 500m long, was built in 1934 when the Grünbach stream was built by building a wall. At that time, this was used for ice-making and later also as fish-breeding waters. For a comfortable tour (1.1 km) you should plan 20 minutes time. Due to the beautiful location, it was decided in the sixties to make the lake accessible to tourism. As a result, today's visitors can take a romantic gondola ride on the Amselsee with a rowboat from April to October. The "evening gondolas", which the Rathener Schifferverein organizes on various weekends during the summer months, are particularly popular. But even in winter, the lake is a magnet for many skaters.
Anyone who decides on a half-hour boat trip on the Amselsee will get to know a large part of the Niederrathen rock world from a completely different perspective. Because not only the "locomotive" together with the "lamb", the "beehive" and the "stork nest" in the north throne over the Amselgrund and offer the viewer a unique eye-catcher. The "Big Goose" and the "Monk" form the valley border on the opposite southern side. The "Talwächter" and the "Feldsteine" in the east complete the picture.

Coming from Rathen or Rathen this is a beautiful, green patch of land and a welcome change to the rock and forest.
You can also row here if necessary, but actually worth the area.
A hike is rather recommended.

While strolling on the lake, just enjoy the peace and quiet, from the wild bustle that prevailed just before on the bastion.

Not far from the natural stage Rathen. The path is paved.
And a small gondola ride with the rowing boat is also possible

Both the hike and the lake are a highlight! You can rent paddle boats and pedal boats for 30 minutes for little money!

This is a really nice and quiet lake to walk along - especially if you've spent all day climbing up hundreds of steps to the Basteibrücke!

A nice place to stay, take a break on a hike or just in summer to gondolas.
