The Tumble climb is one of the most notorious cycling climbs in the South Wales valleys. At 6km in length and with a 10% incline it’s all about slow and steady to summit the Blorenge. But did you know there are other ways of climbing the Blorenge? This route takes you up two of thee lesser-known ascents. The route starts in Abergavenny, you climb up The Punchbowl side of The Blorenge, down The Tumble, then some flat roads following the river along to Llangynidir, up the alpine style switchbacks to the top of the moors, a gradual descent along bike paths built on what remains of the mining infrastructure in the valleys. The best climb is saved for last, the traffic-free Tyla climb to the top of the Blorenge before descending the Tumble for the final time back into Abergavenny.
