On the edge of the Hardangervidda National Park, the area around the town of Ullensvang has drawn visitors to its stunning natural beauty for many centuries. In the past, famous artists and composers found inspiration amongst the steep mountains, icy glaciers, fairytale waterfalls, and pretty villages and farms.
Your first adventure showcases the very best of these magical landscapes on a 16.6 km (10.3 mile) hike high above the Sørfjord, a branch of the Hardangerfjorden.
The hike begins on the outskirts of Ullensvang. From the car park, you snake up the hillside, enjoying spectacular views over the Sørfjord as you climb.
The view continues to become more and more magical as you approach the edge of the Hardangervidda National Park. At the top of the climb, you reach the gushing Opo Waterfall.
You walk along the plateau enjoying the rocky peaks high above the Fjords. You may even find yourself hiking above the clouds if the weather is right.
The route twists around and drops back down to the start point. With its unique artistic flair and varied restaurants, Ullensvang is a great place to unwind after your hike.
