Neuseeland ist derzeit mein Geheimfavorit - wenn da nur nicht der weite Flug wäre...
Da die beiden Inseln nicht riesig sind, könnte man den Aufenthalt auf zwei Wochen vor Ort (für mich das absolute Minimum) beschränken und auf Hin- und Rückflug mehrtägige Stopover einlegen (z.B. in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapur, Tokio, ...).
Was kann man erwarten: Wenige Top-Highlights (in der Liga von z.B. Grand Canyon oder Yellowstone spielt wohl nur der Milford Sound), aber unglaublich viel spannende, intakte Natur und sehr freundliche Menschen! Die Tierwelt, das sind primär Vögel und Meeresbewohner wie Seelöwen oder Delfine (plus das, was der Mensch hergebracht hat - hier leben u.a. mehr Schafe als Menschen), klingt langweilig. Ist es aber nicht, weil die Tiere für uns oft exotisch und eher unscheu sind (Vögel sind z.B. meist Laufvögel, da es vor der Besiedlung keine Säugetiere und damit keine Predatoren gab)!

Under conditions like today, I wouldn't recommend this tour for normal hikers. Extreme winds (from front when ascending and from back when descending) of almost 100km/h in the peak will take away every little bit of your energy...

The dunes provide lots of fun. Slide down the sand is nice. But it's overcrowded! Spend some more time and explore the more remote parts...

One HAS to visit this Spot (north end of New Zealand). But do not expect too much when just using the Standard track!
If possible, one should spend some extra time and walk down to one of the beaches.
