The Jura2000-Tour takes you right into the heart of the Altmühl Valley Nature Park in the beautiful south German state of Bavaria. Along its 58 kilometres (36 mi), you’ll hike through the valleys of the Altmühl, Sulz and Laaber rivers, encounter the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal and roam across the impressive Jura plateau. The picturesque loop connects the towns of Beilngries, Dietfurt, Breitenbrunn and Berching and showcases their mediaeval and baroque buildings, where the bourgeoisie and influential prince-bishops once resided.
Culture and tradition come together here with great hospitality. The development of the region is strengthened and promoted by the Jura2000 project, to which the municipalities of Beilngries, Dietfurt, Breitenbrunn and Berching belong. In addition to nature and conservation, crafts and regional cuisine among other things are being developed as part of the project.
The three stages of the hike are between 13 and 29 kilometres (8 - 18 mi) long. As I’ve included the public transport stops at the start and finish points, the stages are slightly longer than the official route. In addition to the idyllic paths and the stunning scenery, the start and finish points of the stages are well worth exploring and offer a good selection of accommodation and refreshments. As the Tours are accessible by public transport and the rural stretches are frequently served by buses, you can customise the hike to suit your needs.
Now I wish you a lovely long weekend on the Jura2000-Tour. Have fun in the heart of the Altmühl Valley Nature Park.
