Mitteldeutsche Stauseen

Today the first section on the Hohenwarte Stausee Weg. The reservoir is also known as the Thuringian Sea.

So far the tour has been very varied. The pumped storage power plant with its 300 meter height difference was particularly impressive.

Sometimes it is the nature experiences, sometimes the sporting success and sometimes the encounters that make a hiking day a special day.

Today, in warm and very oppressive weather, completed the last and most strenuous stage of my tour around the Hohenwarte reservoir.

In this section there were again very nice views of the Saale and also enough opportunities to quench your thirst with non-alcoholic beer. There were also several places… voir plus

Day 2 in the Vogtland. Today on the dam roundabout around the dam Pöhl. Unfortunately, dams are currently providing a sad impression in many places due to the low level.

The path around the dam was better in the second part on the west bank and had its peak in the Triebtal, which continues after the Sperrmauer… voir plus

The Roth Central Saxony hiking guide, hot off the press, made me want to get to know this part of Saxony that I did not pay attention to and I was not disappointed. The route around the dam was very varied and Kriebstein Castle was a highlight.

This tour around the largest dam in Germany was originally planned as a two-day tour and is done in two parts due to the circumstances. The picturesque town of Saalburg with the Friedensbrücke across the Saale is a good starting point for both parts.

The second part of the circumnavigation of the Bleiloch reservoir was 99% today on the "International mountain hiking trail of friendship - Eisenach Budapest" (short: EB trail), which makes a loop here from Saalburg to Saaldorf and back.

I hike around the largest dams in central Germany in a loose sequence (including Hohenwarte-, Bleichloch-, Pöhltalsperre) and today I completed the first part of the Zeulenroda dam path around the "Zeulendrodaer Meer" and the Weida dam.

The Zeulendroda dam path came in tenth place in the selection of the most beautiful hiking trail 2020 in the hiking magazine in the category of multi-day hikes (out of ten 😂; see wandermagazin.de/de/artikel/aktuelles/933/das-sind-deutschlands- schonste-wanderwege-2020.html).

From the series "Mitteldeutsche Talsperren", today the Leibis-Lichte-Talsperre near Unterweißbach with at least the second highest dam in Germany.



Nice hiking trail but not a big highlight.

I used the relative calm between the two storm days to continue my loose series of circumnavigating the largest central German dams.



The dam wall of the dam was quite impressive, otherwise the tour was rather boring and very asphalt-heavy.

After my tours in the Tharandt forest (komoot.de/tour/287507213) and through the Rabenauer Grund (komoot.de/tour/279681062) this is my third trip to this beautiful area in the Eastern Ore Mountains not too far from Dresden.
