Gljúfrabúi and Seljalandsfoss are both in the list of the top 20 tourist destinations in Iceland. Of course we wanted to take them with us on our last day. We parked in front of the campsite at Gljúfrabúi. Clever, as it turned out - you pay a parking fee in the parking lot at Seljalandsfoss!

After the two great waterfalls, the old plane wreck was not far away at the end of the day. In the past you could comfortably drive on a slope to the wreck, today you have to walk the 3.5 kilometers. From the parking lot it is only a few meters to the waterfall (level). In the sun you have a great rainbow, sometimes double or almost a complete circle. The waterfall is quite high and has a lot of water and is considered one of the largest in Iceland.

We were lucky with the weather again, today was a sunny day too! So on, further parts of the island are to be explored. There are various waterfalls in the area around Vik, including the well-known Skógafoss. Not far from it, at the museum, there is the "little brother" who is just as interesting!

The name says it all - the sand here is really almost black when it is damp (dry rather anthracite). From the huge parking lot it is a few meters to the beach, which you can walk along the rocks for about a kilometer. At the beginning there are cave-like overhangs that are framed by bright basalt columns… voir plus

The two small caves are a few kilometers from the main road, the piste offers some driving fun (at least in dry weather and with no traffic) - the drive is just as beautiful as the caves! ;-)

Today was another sunny day - after a week with mostly rain a very welcome change! Today is driving day, but the distance is not far and we have some time for stopovers. The first one right here, not far from our last accommodation.

After spending too much time taking photos yesterday, there was no more time for Diamond Beach. So we looked at it today, on the way to Reykjavik. After the two well-known places, we wanted to go to a more remote place. Since we had no sun in the morning at Jökulsárlón, we wanted to see this lagoon in the sunshine. The lagoon is a bit smaller and not directly visible from the street. Accordingly, it is MUCH quieter here than at Jökulsárlón. After two days with really bad weather (continuous rain) it was a little better today. Good thing, because one of the absolute highlights of the trip was planned today - Europe's largest glacier!

After yesterday's Aurora campaign, we took it easy today. First delicious pancakes and even more delicious cakes in a nice bakery / pastry shop, then "atone" for the little sins - a short rainy hike. Today was driving day again, the weather was really good. After arriving in Eglisstadir we walked to the place where there is a "brewery restaurant" next to the small brewery. Actually, after the walk and the "hell tour" earlier, we were served for today, and it was raining incessantly. But not too far from the geothermal field there are two of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland, which of course should be seen! The second thing we wanted to do was run through the geothermal field. When we got there it was raining heavily. We waited in the car for a while, then we decided (when the rain subsided a bit in between) to just do the small lap through the lower field. Today we actually had a lot to do - there is a lot to see and do in the vicinity of Lake Myvatn. However, it rained almost all day today.
