As the last action on the island before our return flight tonight, a meal was planned in one of the most famous fish restaurants on the island, a good hour away from the airport. We were there way too early, so a walk through the small town and along the beach. Now we are sitting in the restaurant and

After the great waterfalls around Seljalandsfoss, we wanted to give ourselves a little help. The Nauthúsagil is also in the list of the top 20 attractions on the island. So despite the empty tank, the 10km jogging track to this attraction. Most visitors park right next to the Rüttelpiste because you

  4. Gljúfrabúi and Seljalandsfoss are both in the list of the top 20 tourist destinations in Iceland. Of course we wanted to take them with us on our last day. We parked in front of the campsite at Gljúfrabúi. Clever, as it turned out - you pay a parking fee in the parking lot at Seljalandsfoss!

    We ran through

After the two great waterfalls, the old plane wreck was not far away at the end of the day. In the past you could comfortably drive on a slope to the wreck, today you have to walk the 3.5 kilometers. It goes through a rather monotonous stone desert. I would not recommend the 7 kilometers just to see

From the parking lot it is only a few meters to the waterfall (level). In the sun you have a great rainbow, sometimes double or almost a complete circle. The waterfall is quite high and has a lot of water and is considered one of the largest in Iceland.

The way up is relatively exhausting. First very

We were lucky with the weather again, today was a sunny day too! So on, further parts of the island are to be explored. There are various waterfalls in the area around Vik, including the well-known Skógafoss. Not far from it, at the museum, there is the "little brother" who is just as interesting!

The name says it all - the sand here is really almost black when it is damp (dry rather anthracite). From the huge parking lot it is a few meters to the beach, which you can walk along the rocks for about a kilometer. At the beginning there are cave-like overhangs that are framed by bright basalt columns

  9. The two small caves are a few kilometers from the main road, the piste offers some driving fun (at least in dry weather and with no traffic) - the drive is just as beautiful as the caves! ;-)

I had armed myself with a headlamp and a flashlight, but I don't need that. The caves are not too big, and enough

Today was another sunny day - after a week with mostly rain a very welcome change! Today is driving day, but the distance is not far and we have some time for stopovers. The first one right here, not far from our last accommodation.

The road here, after a short time without asphalt, practically ends at

  11. Today we had another rainy day. The accommodation is right on a small lake, the ponies and birds right in front of our noses provide some animation. In addition, this was the first television on the trip where I could easily connect my laptop - after weeks practically without television (usually a maximum

  12. After spending too much time taking photos yesterday, there was no more time for Diamond Beach. So we looked at it today, on the way to Reykjavik. It started to rain again, but we had the beach to ourselves. However, access is currently only possible via a parking lot, the rest is closed due to construction

After the two well-known places, we wanted to go to a more remote place. Since we had no sun in the morning at Jökulsárlón, we wanted to see this lagoon in the sunshine. When driving past we saw that there were several small parking lots along the road with direct access to the lagoon. We drove to the

  14. The lagoon is a bit smaller and not directly visible from the street. Accordingly, it is MUCH quieter here than at Jökulsárlón. But there are boat tours here too, and the local infrastructure is even better (brand new buildings). But all of this is already in hibernation, e.g. one of the inflatable boats

  15. After two days with really bad weather (continuous rain) it was a little better today. Good thing, because one of the absolute highlights of the trip was planned today - Europe's largest glacier!

The first port of call is of course the lagoon, where the boat tours take place. But we had already heard

  16. Today was driving day again, and it was raining incessantly. So we got to our next accommodation very early, at the foot of Europe's largest glacier. Of course you have to go there straight away, even if it rains! However, that was a sentence with an X, because the first trickle had grown into a full

After yesterday's Aurora campaign, we took it easy today. First delicious pancakes and even more delicious cakes in a nice bakery / pastry shop, then "atone" for the little sins - a short rainy hike. In Iceland in particular, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing! Since we have pretty

  18. Today was driving day again, the weather was really good. After arriving in Eglisstadir we walked to the place where there is a "brewery restaurant" next to the small brewery. The way there on foot is not that screaming, but in Iceland the zero alcohol rule applies and after almost two weeks with practically

Actually, after the walk and the "hell tour" earlier, we were served for today, and it was raining incessantly. But not too far from the geothermal field there are two of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland, which of course should be seen! So quickly drove here by car and hawked to the waterfalls at

The second thing we wanted to do was run through the geothermal field. When we got there it was raining heavily. We waited in the car for a while, then we decided (when the rain subsided a bit in between) to just do the small lap through the lower field. It was a good start, even if after a few steps

Today we actually had a lot to do - there is a lot to see and do in the vicinity of Lake Myvatn. However, it rained almost all day today. In addition, we had tried (in vain) to see the northern lights last night and were only really late back at the hotel - so today was more of a rotten day (but it should
