Wissembourg is located on the German-French border and we liked it very much. The place is still partly enclosed by remnants of the old city fortification and the old town is really worth seeing without having adopted the Disneycharakter, which one finds in many other cities of the Alsace.

Originally, I also wanted to go to Alsace this summer. Unfortunately, nothing came of that, partly because we wanted to take our own bikes and I did not find a reasonable and affordable option with the train. Probably you have to concentrate on German stations?

There are several variants to get to Alsace by train and bike. One possibility is to head for a station close to the border in Western Baden (in our case it was Kenzingen) and cycle across the Rhine to Alsace.
